Internal Wall Insulation Perth

Internal wall insulation batten and board system, Perth home
Cold walls, damp patches and high heating bills usually point to one thing in an older solid-wall home: there’s no cavity to fill, so the walls themselves are losing the heat. Internal wall insulation, fitted with a direct-fix batten system, is the most effective retrofit for homes like this.

An HES grant of up to £7,500 is available towards the cost (verified 4 August 2026), subject to an eligibility check. We’re TrustMark and PAS2030 registered, and SWIP/Wetherby accredited for this specific system.

Is internal wall insulation right for your home?

This is one of our four insulation types, and it’s the right fit for solid-wall properties: typically pre-1930s stone-built homes, common in Craigie and parts of the City Centre, along with some 1960s-80s builds without standard cavity walls, common in Oakbank. If your home has solid external walls and no cavity to fill, this is the retrofit route.

It’s worth being upfront about the trade-off: fitting battens and insulation boards to the inside face of a wall does take up a small amount of floor space, typically a few centimetres per wall. Skirting boards, plug sockets and radiators on the affected walls get repositioned, and windows and doors get new reveals. It’s the most involved of the four insulation types we offer, but it also delivers the biggest improvement.

What’s involved in the installation

We start with a survey. We check your wall construction and identify any damp or structural issues that need resolving before insulation goes on, since insulating over damp causes problems.

Work usually progresses one room at a time, so you don’t need to move out. Each room typically takes a few days, depending on its size and complexity, including window reveals, socket repositioning and moving radiators.

Grant support may be available. HES offers a grant of up to £7,500 plus a £2,500 interest-free loan for solid wall insulation (verified 4 August 2026), subject to an eligibility check. Rural and island properties can claim a further £1,500 on top of the insulation grant, also subject to eligibility check.

Energy-efficiency grants cover up to 75% of combined cost. An EPC is required, and funding is based on your property rather than your income. You manage the HES application yourself; we’ll help you through it.

We hold a Waste Carriers Licence, so old materials are removed and disposed of responsibly.

FAQs

How much does internal wall insulation cost?

It depends on your property size, the number of rooms and the wall construction. The HES grant covers up to £7,500, so for most eligible properties the out-of-pocket cost is a fraction of the full price, subject to an eligibility check. We provide a free survey and quote so you know exactly where you stand.

Can I get a grant for internal wall insulation?

Yes. HES offers a grant of up to £7,500 plus a £2,500 interest-free loan (verified 4 August 2026), subject to an eligibility check. Rural and island properties can claim a further £1,500 on top of the insulation grant, also subject to eligibility check. It’s based on your property rather than your income, and you’ll need an EPC. You manage the application yourself and we’ll support you through it. See our Grants and Funding page for the full detail.

Will I lose much room space?

A little, yes, typically a few centimetres per insulated wall. The batten-and-board system is fitted as slim as practical while still meeting thermal performance standards. For most rooms the difference is barely noticeable day to day, but it’s worth knowing about upfront.

How long does internal wall insulation take?

It depends on the number of rooms and their complexity. Each room typically takes a few days, and work progresses room by room, so you stay in the property throughout. We’ll give you a clear timeline with your quote after the survey.

Do I need to move out during installation?

No. Work is done room by room, so the rest of your home stays liveable. There’s some disruption in the room being worked on, furniture moved and sockets repositioned, but you don’t need to leave the property.

What about damp? Will insulation make it worse?

It’s a fair question. We survey for damp before any insulation goes on, and any existing damp issues need resolving first, since insulating over damp causes problems rather than solving them. Fitted correctly by an accredited installer, the system is designed to manage moisture properly.

Do you insulate homes in my area?

Yes, across Perth and Perthshire. Oakbank and Craigie are our top areas for this type of work, and we also cover Perth City Centre and the wider Perthshire settlements. If you’re not sure your area’s covered, just ask.
