Home Energy Grants Perth

Underfloor heating and insulation installation, Perth home

Most Perth homeowners have heard there’s funding available for heating and insulation upgrades. The honest answer is that it can be confusing, and a lot of what’s online is out of date.

Here’s what’s actually available right now. Home Energy Scotland offers grants and interest-free loans for heat pumps, insulation and storage heating. The funding is property-based, not means-tested, so there’s no income or benefits threshold. Subject to eligibility check.

NK Heating Solutions is a Perth-based installer where grant-funded projects make up the bulk of the work. Around 80-90% of our insulation jobs are grant-funded, and we’ve completed over 400 heat pump installations. We’ll help you understand what you’re eligible for and support you through the application.

We’re PAS2030, TrustMark and MCS registered. These are the accreditations required for government-funded heating and insulation work.

What Funding Is Available for Perth Homeowners

Home Energy Scotland is the main funding programme for homeowners in Perth and across Scotland. It offers both grants and interest-free loans for heating upgrades and insulation, and it’s the route we recommend starting with.

Here’s what’s currently available, subject to eligibility check. Every grant listed below also carries a further £1,500 uplift for rural and island properties, taking rural households up to £18,000 in total funding.

Heat pumps – air source heat pump grant of £7,500, with an interest-free loan of up to £7,500 alongside it. If you’re currently on an oil boiler, that grant often makes switching to a heat pump work out cheaper than a like-for-like oil replacement, see our Oil Boiler Installation page for the full comparison.

Solid wall insulation (internal or external) – grant of £7,500, with a loan of up to £2,500.

Flat roof and room-in-roof insulation – grant of £3,000, with a loan of up to £1,000.

Loft, cavity and underfloor insulation – grant of £1,500, with a loan of up to £500.

High heat retention storage heaters – grant of £2,500, with an interest-free loan of up to £5,500.

There’s also the Warm Homes Fund, a separate route where NK Heating Solutions manages the application end to end. Detail on that programme is still being confirmed, but it’s worth asking about when you get in touch.

How to Check If You Qualify

The biggest misconception about heating and insulation grants is that they’re means-tested. They’re not. There’s no income threshold and no benefits requirement.

Eligibility is driven by your property. Specifically, it’s based on your current Energy Performance Certificate and what improvements it recommends. If the EPC says the property would benefit from insulation or a heating upgrade, there’s a good chance funding applies.

Here’s what the process looks like. Get an EPC if you don’t already have one. Check your eligibility. Apply to Home Energy Scotland. Once approved, the work is carried out by an accredited installer and a guarantee is issued.

You manage the Home Energy Scotland application yourself, but NK Heating Solutions will support you through it. We’ll help you understand what funding applies to your property and what your contribution would look like after the survey.

For the Warm Homes Fund, it works differently. NK Heating Solutions manages those applications end to end on your behalf.

Funding is first-come, first-served and subject to availability. Home Energy Scotland agreements run for nine months, so there’s no pressure to rush, but it’s worth starting sooner rather than later.

Why Work with NK Heating Solutions for Grant-Funded Work

Grant-funded heating and insulation projects are what NK Heating Solutions does most. This isn’t a sideline.

Around 80-90% of our insulation work is grant-funded. We’ve completed over 400 air source heat pump installations. In the Perth and Kinross Council area alone, we’ve delivered more than 80 ECO-funded projects, plus 60 ECO projects for Tayside Housing Association. We also maintain around 300 properties for Caledonia Housing Association, now in our fifth contract year.

The accreditations that unlock government-funded work are PAS2030 (held since 2021, required for all government-funded energy efficiency installations), TrustMark (required for HES-funded insulation) and MCS (required for HES-funded heat pumps). NK Heating Solutions holds all three.

All government-funded work carried out by NK Heating Solutions comes with a Qualitymark insurance-backed guarantee: 25-year system cover and 2-year workmanship cover.

We also hold public liability, employers’ liability and professional indemnity insurance.

NK Heating Solutions is based in Perth, covering Perth and Perthshire. We’re a local company that knows the housing stock, not a national directory.

FAQs

Am I eligible for a heating or insulation grant?

Eligibility is property-based, not means-tested. There’s no income or benefits threshold. It’s driven by your property’s current Energy Performance Certificate and what improvements it recommends. If the EPC suggests insulation or a heating upgrade would benefit the property, there’s a good chance you qualify. Subject to eligibility check.

How much grant funding can I get?

It depends on the measure. Grants range from £1,500 for loft, cavity or underfloor insulation up to £7,500 for an air source heat pump or solid wall insulation. Interest-free loans are available alongside grants. If your property is in a rural area, an additional £1,500 uplift applies. All figures are subject to eligibility check.

Do I have to pay anything upfront?

Grants cover a significant portion of the cost, but rarely 100%. Interest-free loans are available to bridge the gap. Your out-of-pocket contribution depends on the measure and the property. NK Heating Solutions can help you understand what your costs would look like after the initial survey. Subject to eligibility.

How do I apply for Home Energy Scotland funding?

You manage the Home Energy Scotland application yourself. NK Heating Solutions will support you through the process and help you understand what funding applies to your property. For the Warm Homes Fund, it works differently. NK Heating Solutions manages those applications end to end on your behalf.

What work qualifies for funding?

Air source heat pumps, all insulation types (internal wall, room-in-roof, loft, cavity, underfloor) and high heat retention storage heaters. The funding is specifically for energy-efficiency and clean-heating upgrades. It doesn’t cover general plumbing, bathroom fitting or standard gas boiler replacements.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. All government-funded work carried out by NK Heating Solutions comes with a Qualitymark insurance-backed guarantee. That’s 25-year system cover and 2-year workmanship cover. NK Heating Solutions is PAS2030 and TrustMark registered, which are the accreditations required for government-funded installations.

How long does the funding process take?

It varies, but Home Energy Scotland agreements run for nine months. The practical timeline is: EPC, then eligibility check, then application, then approval, then installation. NK Heating Solutions can give you a realistic picture after the initial survey. Funding is first-come, first-served and subject to availability, so it’s worth starting sooner rather than later.
